Some sophisticated equipment from L.E.M.U.R.s last expedition.

UPDATED November, 2004

Scientists, journalists, and curiosity-seekers have studied the lights for years. No substantive progress was made. However, things are changing . . .

L.E.M.U.R., a paranormal research team based in Asheville, North Carolina, is currently executing one of the most thorough and technologically-advanced studies of the lights in all time. The team is using a variety of new techniques and instruments to document the activity and attempt to solve the mystery. For updates on our research, please check this site often. The L.E.M.U.R. Team frequently conducts exhausting expeditions onto Brown Mountain. With each trip, valuable new information is gained. Our work has been documented by numerous media, including The Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, The Charlotte Observer, Jack Conrad of Abbey Road Productions, and Brett Clarks Phenomena Productions team, a group that produces paranormal programming for TV.

Weve also been graciously assisted by D.K. Hackett, once a member of the respected ORION team (of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory), researchers from P.A.R.A., and expert geologist John Connor.

The team has learned that appearances of the lights produce objective energy readings, such as powerful fluctuations measured with Geiger counters, standard EMF meters, VLF (Very Low Frequency) detectors, telluric (ground current) units, IR scanners, and electrostatic ion detectors. We are also monitoring data from NOAA (such as the kp magnetosphere index) and the U.S. Geological Survey. So far, we have definitely concluded that all the lights CANNOT be explained as optical illusions, gases, or conventional illuminations from campers and ATVs. These things do not produce the anomalies documented in the objective energy environment. Our work is leading us to believe, more and more, that the true Brown Mountain Lights are a form of high-energy plasma. NO other researcher or team is camping near the ridge and employing the variety of technology used by L.E.M.U.R. Our results are being evaluated by nuclear scientists.

We have now have a report on the cause of the Brown Mountain Lights! For details, click HERE.
