Report on First Paranormal Cruise into the Bermuda Triangle and Bahamas
Conducted October 28-30, 2004
For this investigation, we employed a variety of devices to detect both AC and DC electromagnetic fields at a wide range of frequencies (from single digit hertz to GHz), electrostatic energy, specific magnetic fields, alpha, beta, gamma, x-rays, and more. We were quite shocked to find the decks of the ship absolutely clean of contaminating background energy (to at least less than 0.1 mG). This gave us a surprisingly clean energy environment in which to search for anomalies.
When the ship moved through the Triangle toward Nassau, we did not detect a large amount of unusual energies. There were occasional spikes in the AC, but these could have been caused by ship transmissions. However, we discovered that four separate compasses, when placed a few feet apart, would each point in different directions. These variations were not due to the compasses interfering with each other, and were noted at various distances above the deck.
When we were docked outside Nassau, though, we found a pulsating magnetic field, spanning from 1-100 microteslas, constantly surging. We used all equipment available to rule out artificial causes for this field, such as emanations from the ship or technology on land. It appeared to be a natural field, and we cannot explain it at this time.
On the way back from Nassau to Port Canaveral (the evening of Oct. 30), there were lots of brief surges of EMF detected on virtually all of our instruments, including DC and AC of both low and high frequencies. At one point, during the hour leading up to Halloween (at midnight) a white light appeared on the horizon behind our ship. It seemed to follow the ship, remaining constant for an hour before winking out. The light danced at the horizon, but this motion may have been caused by the rocking of our vessel. At no time did a formation of lights, or a blinking light, appear (to suggest it was another ship). Expedition members who were familiar with identifying ship lights at sea said they saw no indication the illumination was produced by a boat. At this time, the light, which was well-documented on video and in stills, remains unexplained. It reminded us of similar lights reported by Columbus in the Triangle, and recorded in his log, in 1492. He also experienced unreliable compass activity.
The entire area had an extraordinarily low amount of alpha, beta, gamma, and x-rays. In Western North Carolina, L.E.M.U.R.'s base, we usually get around 12-15 quanta per 30 seconds at night. During our expedition, we obtained an average of 3-5 the entire time. Geologists say this could solely be the product of differing elements in the vicinity. If not, it seemed that area was somehow shielded from cosmic radiation. Could this be the product of a gravitational warp diverting the cosmic rays like light bent by a lens?
Nassau was quite active--especially Fort Fincastle! The Fort was used by pirates as an interrogation center, and a great deal of torture took place there, not to mention battles. One small chamber at the Fort was pitch black, stuffy and claustrophobic. Most people who walked in turned and got out within 30 seconds due to an overwhelming sense of dread and oppression. During a session there that lasted nearly an hour, members of our Expedition experienced numerous paranormal events. Without explanation, there were EMF anomalies that coincided with visual anomalies in the IR realm. An Expedition member named Tammy (last name withheld) showed true talent as a sensitive. She was able to reliably direct the placement of our equipment using her senses. Each time she suggested a meter be placed at one spot, a surge would occur, seemingly documenting her subjective impressions with our objective measurements. Tammy had commented on a child being present, and L.E.M.U.R. member Casey Fox (whose ability to see auras has been tested) was shocked when he actually saw a child's apparition, independent of Tammy's experience. At this time, numerous members photographed what they believe to be the apparition, and we look forward to receiving their pics. At once, Tammy said a great, dark presence entered the room "taking up all the energy," and she promptly left. Once she was gone, the EMF surges ceased. It was quite impressive.
After the aforementioned group was gone from the chamber, another member of the Expedition, Beverly, went into the chamber by herself to record audio on a mini-cassette. Though most of her recording was normal, a notable exception was what sounded like distinct breaths that suddenly emerged from the darkness. The audio is truly chilling, and is currently being analyzed by L.E.M.U.R. That night, some Expedition members went to graveyards and had further experiences, such as a spectral physical touch experienced by Travis. Fort Charlotte, though large and impressive, did not seem to yield as many paranormal results as Fort Fincastle.
There were also experiences on the ship. Zack Beck awoke in the middle of the night to seemingly find an intruder in his cabin. The figure in gray at first appeared to be a member of the captain's crew, but then it vanished. Zack later captured anomalies when photographing the cabin. Steve Golden reminded us that ships usually carry several coffins onboard to accommodate those who debark the vessel early.
There were lots of strange pictures taken on the cruise. Patrice even took a pic of a fellow Expedition member on the deck, and he appeared translucent! Perhaps ghosts were even closer to the group than we expected. Ro witnessed bathroom doors opening and closing violently, separate from the ship's motion. Later, Ro, Seanne, and Brian Irish had impressions of a young girl who was murdered in or near that bathroom.
The preliminary expedition convinced us there is much more to be learned in the Triangle, and we plan to go back again for a longer adventure, refining our investigation techniques more each time. For continuing updates, visit www.ParanormalCruise.com or the L.E.M.U.R. Discussion Board.
